David Vs Goliath

Watching the heavyweight title fight at UFC 91 was depressing. To see Brock Lesnar with the title with such little experience just shows that being strong and big can overcome experience and knowledge. Brock Lesnar is clearly a monster in his own right. 6’3 265 lbs. He is compared to a giant black bear, and he is painted as “Goliath” in the media. Randy Couture, 45, 6’1 220 lbs, a Hall of Fame UFC fighter in multiple weight classes, is called “David”. But in this story, Goliath slayed David.

No matter how physically conditioned Randy was, all Brock Lesnar had to do was throw a punch here and there, and that maintained the distance in the fight. A simple punch from him seems like it could break bricks with ease. His sheer strength and size seemed to have dominated this fight from the beginning. I can only imagine that his next fight could possibly end in the exact same way. He is opening the door for other larger fighters who are extremely agile and quick. This is a great opportunity for the UFC to bring the attraction to the heavyweight division again. There are a handful of other fighters who are as big as Lesnar or bigger. Antonio Silva is another fighter that comes to mind that I hope we will eventually see in the UFC.
