And the winner is…

Ding Ding Ding!!! The big winner this week is Huntington, West Virginia.

What do they win?

The title as the Unhealthiest U.S. city. I won’t define unhealthy for you, but I am pretty sure you can figure it out if they are characterized as obese, toothless and poor in recent reports. Pretty much the top 3 of things that I don’t want to be.

Their traditional diet 50 years ago was heavy with fried foods, gravies and sauces, and fattier meats — calorie-rich and cardiac arrest inspiring. It’s no wonder why today many residents are getting heart attacks and having open heart surgery in their early 30s. This is how they were raised. The fact is, nothing about that sounds attractive at all. It’s hard for me to imagine that people can get to the point even after telling themselves, “you’re unhealthy”, but people still keep going the same route and don’t stop. I guess it would be equivalent to someone who smokes cigarettes. People seem to be at ease with the fact they are going to die a painful slow death, much like the obese.

I learned that 31% of the people in Huntington do no form of working out or exercising. I guess that explains why their town has the highest heart disease and diabetes rates. What I read about this town that I love most is that is a KFC $10 Challenge commercial on television challenges families to put together a dinner for $10 when you can get a KFC seven piece meal for $9.99. If that doesn’t tell your residents that they have a problem, then nothing will.

I don’t know about you, but I feel so gross if I eat that stuff. Sinking my teeth into that fried chicken is soooo good at the time. Just thinking about the smell of that stuff makes me hungry. Then once it’s all gone and I look down at the grease stains on the box, I begin to be at odds with myself. “Why’d I eat that?” Eventually you get over it, feel more motivated to do cardio for a little bit longer, and go for Popeye’s next time.
