Are you really breaking a sweat?

If you are spending most days of the week working out in the gym, you’ve probably noticed other people’s workouts; a few good, most bad. You probably see people that have bad form, people that have good form, people that do strenuous workouts, and people that do almost nothing. With all this being said, it’s really hard to imagine people actually losing weight and fat by doing workouts that don’t even cause people to break a sweat.
The whole point of being in the gym is to exercise to get your heart rate up. A good workout should help to improve your overall health including increasing your cardio, speeding up your metabolism which in turn helps to burn fat and leaves you feeling good. What’s the point of going and wasting 1-2 hours at the gym if you aren’t getting any benefit from it?
When I am in the gym, I notice a lot of people with very poor workout routines. They lift weights for a minute, and then take a break for 3. Or work out really really slow on the cardio machines, never elevating their heart rate to anywhere close to the fat burning zone. I also watch the exercise class room with the different types of workouts the gym offers. The only workout that I see that gives real benefit to people is the cardio kickboxing. People are slumped over after the class, exhausted; soaking wet from sweat, and thoroughly worked out. What doesn’t give people a hard workout is the Yoga and Stretching classes. I was suspect of this form of activity because of all the claims that Yoga is great for you because you burn a lot of fat etc, but I just don’t see how that is possible when you don’t really move at all. I did some research and actually found a good article about how Yoga doesn’t really burn any calories in comparison to running or other forms of exercise activity. It seems obvious that Yoga is not a fat-burner.
If you do spend a lot of time in the gym, and aren’t getting the results you want, you may want to change up your workout completely. Increase your intensity, or even write me with what your goals are and what you are trying to achieve, and I can devise you a plan to help get you on track. If you are spending 1-2 hours in the gym and don’t have any results, you’re just wasting your time.
