Child Obesity

How often do you go out to a restaurant or some kind of eatery and see a child that is completely overweight, eating far larger portions than they really should? My guess is a lot. Situations like this are becoming an epidemic where children are becoming largely obese at younger ages; there seems to be no end to this disease in sight.
I recently went to a Chili’s restaurant to have lunch a few days ago. At the table next to me was a father having a meal with his daughter, who must have been no more than 8 or 10 years old. She was already very large for her size and I could tell that this was because he allowed her to eat whatever SHE felt like , not what he recommended. The girl was eating a hot dog, French fries, drinking a large soda, and also having a vanilla milkshake at the same time. They also had an appetizer of chicken strips which it appeared she had drenched in ranch sauce.
With a problem like obesity affecting so many people, it’s best to start addressing this issue at a young age. Yet, if this disease is starting at younger and younger ages, what do you do then?
There was a recent article stating that 1 in 5 American children are obese. Children as young as 4 years old, and more than ½ million are obese.
This is such a disturbing fact because this is something that is only going to continue to worsen if there isn’t a stop put to this. Children should be eating fruits, vegetables, drinking juices and waters instead of soda, and have a limit set for sweets and desserts. Children don’t get the right to set their dietary plan, their parents do. If a child refuses to eat something healthy because they are used to eating other junk, they can starve. It’s not their choice to decide what to eat. If their parents don’t start deciding what’s best for them, then the children run the risk of suffering from many different health diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, heart attacks and much worse at a very young age.
