Manny Tapia vs Miguel Torres

Posted on | December 4, 2008 |

The Miguel Torres – Manny Tapia fight was a one sided stand and bang affair. From the opening bell Torres controlled the fight, kept the distance with his 76” reach, and peppered Tapia with jabs at will. Tapia, being the much shorter fighter, never had a chance. He could never get inside on Torres and when he was close enough, he could only swing wildly.

Many people thought Tapia was going to rain down punches on Torres since Torres is a jiu jitsu guy (He recently received his Black belt in under the Gracie Jiu Jitsu family). Torres thought otherwise and told Tapia that he would stay on his feet and fight him at his own game. This proved to be costly as Torres kept his distance until he unloaded a few rights that knocked Tapia to the ground. Torres was able to mount him and rained down punches until the ref stepped in during the 2nd round and stopped the fight via TKO. Miguel Torres successfully defended the WEC Bantamweight title for the 2nd time.
