In the month of May, there are quite a few big fight organizations putting on some pretty big shows. With the UFC 98, DREAM9, Bellator Fighting, and SHO MMA all having cards, there are bound to be some major upsets, devastating knockouts, and epic battles.

I really do want to see the return of Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto and the grudge rematch between Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza vs. Jason “Mayhem” Miller for the vacant DREAM middleweight title, but it wasn’t enough to make my itinerary. These fighters promise to put on great shows, but they didn’t quite make the 2 fights that are at the top of my priority list.

1) UFC 98 – May 23rd. 2009
UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans vs. #1 challenger Lyoto Machida. Both of these men are undefeated, with the Champion being 13-0-1 and the challenger at 14-0.

Some info on Machida care of Wikipedia:
He holds an undefeated record that includes victories over former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz, former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin, and current UFC lightweight champion B.J. Penn. He is currently ranked as the #2 and #4 light heavyweight fighter in the world by MMAWeekly[2] and Sherdog[3] respectively. Machida is noted for his karate-influenced striking style that implements an unorthodox stance and an elusive strategy.

2) Dream9 - May 26th, 2009
Gegard Mousasi vs. Former K-1 Champ Mark Hunt. The great thing about this fight is that Mousasi was the 185lb DREAM Middleweight Champ no more than 6 months ago, who will now be fighting a much larger fight in hunt, who walks around at 250+ lbs. I am excited about this fight because Mousasi is 23 years, and has a record of 24-2-1. He has defeated not only grappling and jiu jitsu specialists, but feared strikers in both MMA and K-1 Kickboxing.
